We are an independent wine merchant offering a range of English, eclectic old world, small batch, skin contact and low intervention wines for retail sale at the cafe.
A large percentage of our wines are sourced directly from the producer/vineyard, in some cases the wines are collected in person. A number of the wines are produced within a 20 minute drive from Elder Street.
Let us introduce you to a few of our favourite winemakers:-
Saffron Grange Vineyard
Saffron Walden, Essex
Saffron Grange is a family run vineyard on the outskirts of the historic market town of Saffron Walden. Producing premium quality boutique English sparkling wine. The vineyard sits on the same chalk seam that runs all the way from Northern France's renowned wine regions, up through Sussex and into Essex.
ARK Wines
Mount Farm Vineyards, Sudbury
Set over 30 acres of land, Mount Farm Vineyards is home to eight different varieties of grapes. Winemaking, pressing, fermentation, bottling and packaging all takes place on site. Making a variety of small batch wines, experimenting with unusual methods and blends.
Planeta Wines
Sicily
Planeta has established estates in five areas from west to east of Sicily, seeking interpretation of them through research into indigenous grape varieties, including those now forgotten, and into the suitability to welcome international grape varieties aswell.
Kefallinos Wines
Zakynthos, Greece
Dionysis Kefallinos’s first vintage was in 2018. He wanted to make wines with the indigenous grapes of his native Zakynthos using low intervention winemaking that would bring out the truest expressions of these varieties. All of the Kefallinos wines are allowed to ferment naturally on their own yeasts.
Santo Winery
Santorini, Greece
Santo Wines was founded in 1911 and represents 1200 active cultivators on the island. Santo's facilities include the winery, a tomato process factory and the wine tourism centre. Santo Wines maintain a privately owned organic vineyard from which the single variety organic wines are produced. The grapes used for the sweet wine 'Vin Santo' are sun dried on the roof of the winery for 6 - 8 days.
